As previously reported in Horizons (Fall 2017), Martin and his wife Jan headed to Kenya armed with enough nail polish, flip flops, candy canes and soccer balls to bring joy at Christmas to the orphans at Pehucci School and Home for Children.

Zeton’s Martin Rickard Supports Pehucci Orphanage in KenyaOn December 22 they took 45 kids to an animal orphanage in Nairobi, where many of them saw African animals for the very first time. For Christmas dinner the children were served fresh meat, fruit, juice and cookies, and each child received a draw string back pack filled with surprises and a new pair of flip flops. The look on their faces was priceless.

During their stay they also installed a volleyball net that had been generously donated, and arranged to have steel soccer posts made which were then cemented into the ground so they would last, unlike their wooden predecessors.

Much time was spent doing crafts and playing games with the children. They also erected fences and gates to separate the cows from the children, and installed two sets of clothes lines for the children to hang their washing on.

The trip was a huge success, thanks to the generosity of friends, family and co-workers!
